13U A

Chris Fuoco

13U A Division Coordinator

About this division

13U A is the house league for players aged 11-13.  New players are welcome to join up, even if you've never played baseball before!

VCB expects to have 2-4 teams in this division in 2019, with 12-15 players on each team.  The number of teams will depend on registration numbers and how many players are selected to a AA travel team.

Overall Spring Season Schedule

  • mid February: assessments are done for all house-league players to help draft balanced teams
  • early March: teams are formed by a draft process.  You will be notified which team you are on 2-3 days following the draft.
  • At the discretion of the coach, some teams will hold informal pre-season practices beginning around the middle of March.  Your coach will advise you of the date, time, and location of these practices, and they will vary from week to week.
  • mid-April: regular season begins
  • early to mid-June: regular season ends
  • end of June: playoffs end.

Peewee A home games will be played at Chaldecott Park in Vancouver.  Away games will be played at diamonds around Metro Vancouver, so there will be some travel involved.  Carpools will help with the travel.  We anticipate interlocking with Vancouver Minor, Richmond, North Shore, and maybe Burnaby and Coquitlam.  The final decision about which associations we will interlock with will be made around the end of January.  Practices will be scheduled at the Chaldecott Park practice diamond.

If we have 4 (or 5) A teams, we will likely not interlock with other associations and these teams will only play the other VCB teams. This will reduce the amount of travel for the families on these teams.

13U A is an "all-bat" division.  There is no limit to the number of defensive substitutions, except for the pitcher: after a pitcher is removed from the mound, he or she cannot pitch again for the rest of the game.  They can play any other position ( including catcher), however.

Equipment and Uniforms

All players are to provide their own batting helmets, gloves, grey baseball pants and rubber-cleated shoes.  Metal cleated shoes are not permitted in any Peewee division.  Caps, belts, and dri-fits are provided by the league.  These are yours to keep following the season.

Summer Season

For interested players, there is a second baseball season which follows the spring season.  The summer season is managed by BC Minor Baseball.  Each BC Minor Baseball Association can enter one or more teams into the league (most just enter one team).

The summer season runs from late June until the Monday of the BC Day long weekend in August.  During that weekend, a provincial tournament is held to determine a Provincial 13U A Champion team.

There are other open tournaments during July that summer teams may enter as well.

In late April or early May, players will be asked to submit applications to play on the VCB summer team.  The roster is usually 13 players, so if more players want to try out, the head coach will conduct a try-out to select the most capable players.

BC Minor Baseball rules require that players play a minimum number of games in their association's spring house league to be eligible to play on a summer team.

Players selected to the summer team will pay an additional registration fee over their spring season registration fee.
